Unto Their Royal Majesties, Sascha and Kemma, Their Royal Highnesses, Louis and Sadb, Their Excellencies of Flaming Gryphon, Timothy the Just and Elizabeta Foscari, and to the populace, do we, Master Auðin Hrafnsson and Lady Ragna Auðinarkona, send greetings and warmest regards.

With these words we declare our intent to place our names before the Crown and populace as candidates in the succession of Their Excellencies of the most noble Barony of Flaming Gryphon. We do not seek this honor lightly. Flaming Gryphon is our home, our chosen family, and it is through its people that we first discovered what “The Dream” truly is and can be. We can think of no better way to show our love for this Barony than by serving as its next Baron and Baroness.

As Their Excellencies Timothy and Elizabeta prepare to step down and find rest from their stewardship, the Barony of Flaming Gryphon stands vibrant and healthy. Through their guidance, the Barony found its way out of the dark days of the plague. It is our goal to see it continue to grow and flourish in the years to come, sharing the spirit of its people and traditions with the Kingdom and the Known World.

Allow us to briefly introduce ourselves for those we may not yet know. We have been active members of the Society and of the Barony together for over 11 years. In that time, we have found friends and family that transcend what many outside the SCA would consider a hobby. We have truly found a home here.

Auðin is a member of the Order of the Laurel. He has encouraged many to explore the arts and sciences in disciplines including leatherwork, blacksmithing, woodworking, and armouring. He has been active in armored combat, rapier, and youth combat, serving as a youth combat marshal. He has twice served as Minister of Arts and Sciences for our Cantons, was His Majesty’s A&S Champion during the reign of Ullr and AnneLyse III, and has held multiple Baronial championships in A&S, Armored Combat, and, most recently, Thrown Weapons.

Ragna is known for her service to the populace wherever she can lend a hand. She is especially recognized for her feasts and for ensuring there is always coffee at hand. Many know her for her coffee cart, which she provides freely at events. She also delights in period games and crafts, often entertaining and teaching our youth.

Over the years, we have both been humbled to receive recognition for our contributions to the Barony and the Kingdom. Auðin is a member of the Order of the Laurel and has been honored with distinctions including the Award of Arms, Order of the Sable Shield, two Awards of the Gryphon’s Plume, Companion of the Order of the Silver Oak, Order of the Gryphon’s Spear, Award of the Flaming Brand, Baronial Artisan, Baronial Champion, and Baronial Thrown Weapons Champion. His service and dedication to the arts are further reflected in his recognition as Kingdom Arts & Sciences Champion and membership in the Orders of St. Crispin, the Evergreen, and the Royal Vanguard, as well as his academic accomplishments as a Licentiate, Graduate, and Adept of the Royal University of the Midrealm.

Ragna is a Companion of the Order of the Willow, a two-time recipient of the Purple Fret, and holds the Award of the Flaming Brand, Order of the Gryphon’s Spear, Baroness’ Cypher, the Award of the Gryphon’s Plume, and an Award of Arms. Each of these honors represents not only personal achievement but the support, inspiration, and friendship of the Barony that shaped us. We are deeply grateful for the opportunities to serve and to grow within this remarkable community.

Our children, Ellisif and Willow, who have grown up in the Current Middle Ages, have also been active in both the Kingdom and Barony, receiving awards from both. They participate in youth combat, archery, thrown weapons, and the arts and sciences. Each has proudly served as a Youth Champion for Flaming Gryphon.

Our vision for the Barony is one of inclusion, diversity, and growth. We believe it is essential to create safe spaces where both new and experienced members feel welcome to express themselves and contribute to the Dream. We will model inclusivity in our courts and events, hold listening sessions, and maintain open feedback channels to ensure every voice is heard.

We hope to encourage new members by creating opportunities to learn and connect through mentorship, newcomer gatherings, and welcoming hands at practices and events. We also see the importance of engaging our youth by partnering with officers to expand activities, provide mentorship, and recognize their contributions, giving them a true place within the Barony.

Strong communication will be a priority, with consistent updates across social media, email, and traditional formats so no one is left out. We also want to preserve the knowledge of our long-standing members by encouraging mentorship, storytelling, and documentation of traditions, while helping newer members step confidently into leadership and service roles.

Recruitment and retention are challenges across the SCA, and we plan to strengthen our presence in the community through demos and outreach, while ensuring newcomers feel guided, connected, and valued once they join. By cultivating the talents of our members and working together, we believe Flaming Gryphon will continue to grow stronger while honoring its proud legacy..

It will be our profound honor to continue in service to the Barony and Kingdom, either as heirs to Their Excellencies, or in support of those the Crown and populace find worthy. We thank you for your time and consideration.
