It seems to me that the lost deposit money *must* be a factor in that decision. Emergencies are, among other things, not free.

...and are also very expensive. All fall under the catagory "cost of living".

Just how, exactly, is planning your own wedding circumstances unexpected matters beyond your control?

You didn't loose the money, you spent the money. That's different.

Although that would have been a tragedy, It would still not have been the Cooper's responsibility to reimburse you for money that you, as adults, gave them in good faith and with knowledge that it was non-refundable after a certain date.

Don't get me wrong, I feel for your plight, and you're probably right, they should, he should have taken a less standoffish attatude, but I take great solice in the sure knowledge that life isn't fair. I'd hate to think I deserved *everything* I got.
