It sounds as though this squire is 'defending his kingdom' in his own eyes, and he sees this as the he-man course of action. It is a mistake, however, for him to equate that with chivalry, or knightly behavior.

Courtesy is the cornerstone of all the knightly virtues, and he needs to get some. He can disagree with this Baron (who may have been a bit rude also?? The squire certainly thinks so) in public, but should save his personal comments for private posts--or in-person talks, if he has the nerve. 'Shouting' on email  doesn't take much bravery.

I think, Vard, that you can take him at his word: that he is no gentleman, and that he is a squire (and it seems, is destined to remain so).

p.s. I don't think you really have to bring this up to his knight, if he knows him at all I don't think this behavior from his squire would be a surprise to him. And we must all remember that these kinds of political discussions really can carry a lot of emotion.
